Our Kids First Foundation
Helping children in need has been a priority for Cultural Care Au Pair since our inception in 1989. In 2004, we created an official philanthropic program called Kids First with the hope of focusing our efforts on groups of at-risk children in select countries from which we recruit our au pairs. The Cultural Care Kids First Foundation was incorporated as a non-profit foundation to expand our efforts and help more children around the world.
Our goals for Kids First have been and continue to be:
- Helping children in need around the world
- Giving back to the home countries of our au pairs
- Teaching au pairs the American tradition of volunteerism
- Promoting global awareness to our host parents and children
Kids First partners
Our first Kids First partner was Orphanage #63 in Moscow, Russia which is home to 56 children who have very little hope of being adopted. In 2006, we chose three other organizations to partner with Children of South Africa (CHOSA), an American non-profit organization that provides support to orphaned and vulnerable children; Casa do Zezinho, an after-school center in Sao Paolo Brazil that offers arts and culture programs to 1,200 at-risk children and teenagers. St. Mary’s Academy, a school in New Orleans, LA that was devastated by Hurricane Katrina.
Kids First purchased a bus for the orphanage in Russia, financed the building of a new daycare center in Cape Town, helped expand the mosaic and choir program at an after-school program in Sao Paulo, and bought thousands of books for an elementary school library in New Orleans. We’ve also helped with other needs like educational materials, sporting equipment, warm mittens and scarves and bunk beds.
Most recently, we have expanded our reach to include three additional partners: Dom dziecka w Aabiunaich a children’s home in Aabiunie, Poland, Jeevitha Anathashrama, an orphanage in Bangalore, India and Share our Strength, a national organization in the USA whose mission is to fight childhood hunger.
Kids First fundraising
Fundraising for Kids First happens all over the world. Our U.S. Cultural Care office produced an international cookbook and a children’s CD, the proceeds of which went to Kids First. Cultural Care’s overseas offices fundraise by hosting bake sales, 5K races, and donations from au pairs. The teachers at the Au Pair Training School on Long Island donate all proceeds from their snack station to Kids First. Our local childcare consultants in the United States have organized hundreds of fundraising events for Kids First with the help of local au pairs and host families.
Kids First donations
100% of Kids First donations go directly to our partner organizations, with whom we maintain a close relationship. Using matched funds from Cultural Care Au Pair we are able to organize site visits to meet the local staff in each of the countries, help with hands-on-projects, witness first-hand the impact of our efforts and help determine how we can help in the future.
Cultural Care Au Pair will continue to work with our partner organizations to improve the lives of children around the world, and we thank the Cultural Care family for their continued support. Learn more about Kids First.
